| Ce matin, en passant dans le couloir, j’ai entendu un bruit que j’avais du mal à identifier. En repassant je me suis rendu compte que c’était des clés dans ma poche. (ça pourrait arriver à n’importe qui!) J’ai formulé la traduction exacte de « c’est ça que j’ai entendu »… …au lieu de me dire « ça est ce que j’ai entendu » comme on dirait normalement en anglais. Décidément, je suis en France depuis tellement longtemps que l’authenticité de mon anglais en souffre… …même quand je me parle à moi-même. |
This morning, walking along the corridor, I heard a noise I had difficulty identifying. Coming back I realised it was my keys jangling in my pocket. (It could happen to anyone.) My comment to myself was « It’s that that I heard ». Exactly what a French-speaker would say. I should have said, « That’s what I heard! » as we say in English. I have definitely been in France so long that my English is becoming less authentic… …even when I’m talking to myself. |
